CanHaem is a national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving the care of Canadian patients with Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia Syndromes. If you have an interest in these disorders or have experience with patients and want to learn or contribute more, we invite you to join the Canadian Hemoglobinopathy Association.
The care of patients with Sickle Cell Disease ad Thalassemia can be incredibly challenging, be it emergent or chronic care. There is a paucity of specialists with expertise in these diseases, especially for adults. For other healthcare professionals, there may be limited experience of working with this patient population. Historically, patients with Hemoglobinopathies were located mainly in Vancouver, Montreal and major cities of Ontario. Due to shifts in workforce and immigration patterns, it is now likely that you will encounter patients, regardless of where in Canada you work. CanHaem aims to improve this by providing educational materials and clinical resources for nurses and physicians working across Canada. We hope that this will help with provision of equitable, high quality care and provide a centralised repository to which one can turn for further information.
CanHaem is free to join and membership will enable you to keep up to date with knowledge and also to contribute to new initiatives.
